Dr. Songül Köse Özgöçer received her undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Boğaziçi University, her M.A. from Middle East Technical University, and her Ph.D. from Hacettepe University. In her doctoral research, she examined the concepts of guilt (Schuld) and responsibility (Verantwortung) within the framework of Karl Jaspers’ philosophy, situating them in the broader context of twentieth-century German existential thought.
She has previously held research and teaching positions at Middle East Technical University and Akdeniz University, and conducted scholarly research at the Karl Jaspers Haus in Germany. She also served as a part-time faculty member at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. As of 2025, she is a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy at Dokuz Eylül University.
Her research interests include modern philosophy, existentialism, environmental ethics, and the philosophy of responsibility. She has published several articles in national and international peer-reviewed journals, and translated various philosophical works and book chapters into Turkish. She is a recipient of fellowships from the Gerda Henkel Foundation and TÜBİTAK, and is an elected full member of the Philosophical Society of Turkey.
Dr. Köse Özgöçer is proficient in English (advanced), German (upper-intermediate), and Ancient Greek (intermediate).
